Support Connected Accounts

Connected Accounts

Overview

Connected accounts let a member attach their Google or Apple sign-in to their Ziptask account, so they can sign in with one tap. The key point: it works even when the Google/Apple email is different from the email on the Ziptask account.

This is separate from the automatic linking that already happens at sign-in. When someone signs in with Google/Apple using the same email as their account, the two link automatically (see Sign In). Connected accounts is the manual counterpart for the common case where the emails don’t match — for example, a personal Apple ID on a work account.

Members manage this themselves from Profile → Security → Connected accounts.

There is nothing to configure at the account or admin level — every member controls their own connected accounts, and no feature flag gates it.

How it works

On their own profile, under Security → Connected accounts, each member sees a row for Google and (on iOS and web) Apple:

  1. Connect — tap Connect and complete the Google/Apple prompt. The provider is attached to the account, whatever email it uses. From then on, tapping “Continue with Google/Apple” signs them straight in.
  2. Disconnect — removes the link. A confirmation is shown first.

Apple is not offered on Android (matching the sign-in screen).

The “different email” case (why this exists)

Signing in with Google/Apple normally only finds your account if the provider’s email matches your Ziptask email. If they differ, the sign-in shows a “no account found” message. The fix is to sign in once with email + password, then Connect the provider from this panel — the link is made to your account directly, so every future social sign-in just works.

The last sign-in method is protected

A member can’t disconnect their only remaining way to sign in. If someone has no password set and only one connected account, the Disconnect option is unavailable until they add another sign-in method (set a password, or connect the other provider). This prevents locking oneself out.

Support notes

  • “It says my account is already linked to another account.” That Google/Apple identity is connected to a different Ziptask account. A single Google/Apple identity can only be connected to one account. Disconnect it there first, or use a different provider.
  • “I can’t find the Disconnect button.” It’s hidden when that account is the member’s only sign-in method — have them set a password first (Profile → Security → Change Password).
  • “I connected on the website but it didn’t take.” The web flow briefly redirects to Google/Apple and back; if it’s interrupted or takes too long, it returns with a “try again” message and nothing is linked. Retrying is safe.
  • Apple + Hide My Email. Because linking is keyed on the provider’s stable identifier (not the email), Apple’s private relay / “Hide My Email” and its first-time-only email behavior don’t affect connecting or signing in.
  • No account is ever created this way. Connecting requires being signed in first — it only ever attaches a provider to the account you’re already in.
